The Position
The Company is looking for two aspiring Construction Field Engineers to join its team for the summer of 2018 with an internship or co-op position. Applicants for this position should be of junior, senior, or recent alumnus standing and working toward or recently completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. This position will give someone with interest in the construction industry an opportunity to gain hands-on experience. 
Hardman Construction is open to hiring someone that may want a co-op position that starts prior to the summer of 2018.

The pay rate will be $14 to $16 per hour, depending on candidate experience. Internships typically last for the duration of a summer break, but may run during other times or concurrent with class periods when appropriate. This position could also eventually turn into a co-op or full-time, permanent position, depending upon the intern’s success with the company and in the position.
Interns and co-ops may be assigned to jobs in various locations throughout the state of Michigan (and potentially beyond), so a driver’s license and willingness to travel and work a lot is critical to the position.

  • Progression toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management

  • Love of the outdoors and being in the thick of the construction activity
  • Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively
Typical Internship Components:                     
  • Exposure to and involvement with at least one project from the estimating phase through project start up (including through closeout for a short-term project)
  • Participation in estimating, including take-off, subcontractor pricing review, and duplicate bidding (when possible)
  • Site visits, including at least weekly when possible, to local jobs to see field operations, observe means and methods, and develop a better understanding of the work
  • Introduction to project scheduling, resource allocation, and equipment resources
  • Exposure to and utilization of Company software systems, including estimating, project management, scheduling, and any other software
  • Project Management processes exposure, including quantity tracking, submittals, RFI’s, change orders, and other information

Career Path
The objective of the Company’s internship program is to develop interns into Field Engineers for permanent hire upon graduation. Beyond that, the long-term goal is to progress into a Project Management role.

The Recruiting Process
The recruitment process will include at least two phone screens, an in-person interview, candidate assessments, and a background check and drug test.
