The Position
The Talent Development Executive will provide strategic leadership in the recruitment, training, and retention of talent. The TDE will partner with both the corporate and regional leadership staff to create and support systems designed to hire the best talent in the industry, develop that talent with a refined and holistic training and development program, and ultimately build the best team in the industry. While the position is primarily a strategic role, the TDE position is an HR role, which means that hands-on work in various functions is necessary at times.
 
The TDE position is based in the corporate headquarters in Lansing, MI. If the right candidate lives in the Detroit or Grand Rapids area, time could be split between the Lansing and Detroit/GR office, provided that the individual is willing to spend at least 2 full days in the Lansing office on a weekly basis. Additionally, travel to the regional offices is required and varies based on the current recruiting, training and retention initiatives.
 
Key Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to the following:
 
Training and Development
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Company training and development, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure that our approach to learning is proactive, consumable and actually applied
  • Develop a multi-year strategy for implementing leadership development programs to support critical roles.
  • Measure and track outcomes of the initiatives, with the goal of continuous improvement
 
Recruitment
  • Analyze current practices for recruiting and introduce new processes that are targeted to specific regions and business units, yet still align with the Christman Way
    • Collaborate with the EVP and the Regional/Group principals to implement recruiting strategies
    • Develop a consistent and effective approach to college recruiting across all regions
 
Retention
  • Ensure that Christman’s approach to on-boarding new employees accelerates their path to fulfillment and quickly develops the sense of Christman family
  • Benchmark industry compensation and benefits trends and recommend changes to maintain competitive position
  • Responsible for the Company’s overall Performance Management systems and practices
 
 
Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities 
  • Graduate degree in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field is required
  • 7+ years of experience in Training & Development, Talent Development, and/or Organizational Development, preferably in a multi-site environment
    • Extensive experience working directly with Learning Management Systems
    • Proficiency in program and process design and process improvement
    • Management experience including having multiple direct reports
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification is preferred
  • Construction Industry experience is beneficial, but not required
  • Proven ability to collaborate with and influence people within a complex, matrix environment.
