The Company is looking for someone to join their Superintendent-in-Training program. The goal of this position is to provide a clearly defined career path for entry level college graduates to earn their way into a Superintendent role for the Company. Applicants for this position must be nearing their date of graduation, or be a recent graduate from a two or four year Construction program. Applicants with previous work history will be considered, however those with experience exclusively in the construction industry will not have preference.

The program plan calls for four phases (each the length of one season), lasting approximately a year, with the anticipation that solid, quality work by the trainee will lead to a full-time superintendent position upon completion of the program. A brief overview of each season is as follows:

Season 1:

Employee works as a laborer, in the field, learning the hands-on work of bridge building.

Season 2:

The employee will work in the field through the end of the season, as regularly scheduled, and then will transition into the office/shop.

Season 4:

Employee starts the season as a Superintendent, managing projects in the field on his own.
The Employee will be transitioned to the Superintendent compensation plan (salary) in year 4, his first full year as a Superintendent.

On average, our field laborers make over $45,000 annually, so while the first two years will involve some tough, down and dirty work, the pay is better than the average starting salary. The average annual income for our superintendents is over $75,000 and the Company pays 100% of medical benefits for the employee and his/her family! Additionally, the Company provides its superintendents with a vehicle and fuel, as well as a fully funded retirement plan.

This program is targeted towards someone that enjoys the field side of construction and being in the thick of the work, while ultimately targeting a leading management role for our bridge operations team.

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Shop Supervisor is to direct, manage and coordinate Mechanics, Truck Drivers and others responsible for the operation, coordination and quality control of a maintenance, repair and transportation facility. Must have experience moving supplies and equipment between multiple locations efficiently and cost effectively. The role will oversee all repair work on trucks, vehicles and various construction equipment. This position also requires considerable knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair of heavy equipment. Progressive thinking and ingenuity are key.

This leadership role will require managing truck drivers, staff members and mechanics. In addition, this position will have daily interaction with training site superintendents, jurisdictional officers, construction crews, customers, supervisors, owners and materials and equipment suppliers.

Candidates must be skilled in:

Selecting staff and coordinating activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
Evaluating and verifying employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques. Overseeing the maintenance, overhauling and rebuilding of trucks, tractors, pumps, cranes, and other standard or specialized gasoline, diesel, electric, hydraulic or water-operated machinery and equipment.
Diagnosing difficult problems and recommends repairs, by phone or in person, of company owned equipment. Recommending for purchase or disposal of new and used vehicles and equipment, parts, materials, and supplies used in heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
Maintaining a master schedule or calendar of deliveries/loads going from (or back) the yard to the field and coordinate available truck drivers with the needs of the construction project(s).
Determining optimal truck routing, load sizes, and/or frequency of hauled loads.
Ensuring company is in compliance with laws and regulations regarding transportation; including all relevant and appropriate Department of Transportation requirements.
Researching new tools, equipment, technology and methods to improve productivity and effectiveness.
Providing training in skills such as hydraulics, gas/diesel engines, welding, and fabrication of parts and tools
Ensuring proper right-to-know and other OSHA regulations are followed for the safety of the mechanics and truck drivers.
Keeping accurate record of materials and products transported.
All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Associates degree, preferably related to Materials Logistics Management or Heavy Equipment Repair.
Three or more years’ experience of performing repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment, preferably in the heavy civil construction field.
General computer proficiency including Excel, Word and Outlook.
First Aid and CPR Certified or be willing to complete training in those areas within 90-days.
OSHA 30 hour training, or completes within first 6 months of employment
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, as well as occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with the support of a co-worker.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to work under deadline pressure

Job Summary:
The goal of this position is to develop, schedule and lead the project. This person will be responsible for managing all aspects of a project including; technical oversight, safety, scheduling, cost containment and financial responsibility. The goal of this position is to assess the project scope and its components to develop accurate cost estimates. The estimator will determine costs for equipment, material, subcontracts, construction labor, engineering, construction management and indirect costs. This person will be responsible for negotiating project costs, submitting hard dollar bids, assembling proposals and trade packages.

The ability to incorporate project complexity factors into estimates is key to this role. In addition, this position will be expected to monitor performance indicators, maintain the cost database, perform uncertainty analysis and determine project risk factors. This role will also benchmark against historical performance and industry norms to determine costs.
