A part-time Private Tutor
is needed to provide exceptional instruction to a 10-year-old student that requires a unique approach to learning, specifically in Math. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully collaborate with the child’s teacher and parent to create a connection between the classroom and the student that promotes learning. Preliminary assessments indicate that the child has dyscalculia and therefore, experience with educational strategies specific to dyscalculia are required.
The primary responsibility will be the use of strategy and skill to assist the student with progress in math, providing a bit of challenge and fun to the learning atmosphere. The goal for the student is to reach grade level by the fall of 2020. His overall learning level is on track, with the exception that he is reading at a higher level, and lagging a bit behind in match. Recent strategies have included the Precision approach to math learning, which has not yielded as much progress as hoped. The student is a hands-on, interactive learner and the tutor should be equipped to deal with a high energy student that requires flexibility but also accountability to stay on course with key learning objectives.
The tutor may work with the student at his school during the day, or at the family’s house immediately following school. The tutor will have the support of the student’s ABA aide, who spends the day with him at school. The schedule is flexible, with the goal being to get specialized instruction 3-4 days per week for approximately 2 hours per day. With lesson prep and review time, it is expected this role will require approximately 12 to 15 hours per week. The schedule is flexible, within reason, for the right person.
