2022 Summer Intern

O’Brien Construction is a General Contractor with a 55-year history of stable, profitable and safe work in the Metro Detroit area. Primary areas of expertise include large multi-family developments, historical renovations, senior living, municipal/institutional, non-profit and commercial projects.

The Project Engineer Position:
As the Company continues to focus on identifying permanent, full-time hires following graduation, we are adding Construction Interns to join our operations team for the Summer of 2022. Construction Interns will support Project Engineers, Project Managers, Superintendents and Field Tradesmen on unique construction projects. Interns will gain hands-on experience in both the field and office and are responsible for a wide range of duties, ranging from preparing project documentation, assisting with ordering and securing materials, and being the general go-to person for the project team in all areas where support is needed.


The position offers the unique opportunity to work with a family-oriented, relationship-focused Company while gaining first-hand exposure to construction projects. O'Brien Construction is truly a cool place to work and has recently been recognized by Crain’s as such!

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities for the Project Engineer Position:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Desire to gain hands-on experience and grow within the industry
  • Hard-working and dependable
  • Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively
  • Passion and energy for construction

Compensation, Benefits, and Structure for the Project Engineer Position:
This is a part-time, temporary position that is designated to identify and mentor individuals that will become permanent, full-time hires after graduation. The position offers a competitive hourly wage, the opportunity for career growth, mentorship, and a team-based culture.  

The Recruiting Process for the Project Engineer:
The recruitment process is designed to be a thorough, two-way evaluation to ensure that the best decision is made by both the Company and the candidate. The process will include a phone interview, in-person interviews, candidate assessments, and a pre-employment background check and drug test.
