The Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association (MITA) is a statewide construction trade association that consists of over 500 Michigan companies representing construction disciplines such as road and bridge, sewer and water, utility, railroad, excavation, and specialty construction. MITA was created in 2005 when the Associated Underground Contractors (AUC) and Michigan Road Builders Association (MRBA) merged into one to serve the entire heavy/highway construction industry in Michigan.
The Director of Engineering Position The MITA Director of Engineering is responsible for supporting MITA members with challenges related to construction specifications and field issues, various governmental rules and regulations, utility conflicts and other technical matters. The Director of Engineering has the unique responsibility to effectively balance the interests of the Association, its members, and external organizations, including MDOT.
MDOT, and its Engineering team, play a key leadership role in the heavy/highway industry and are viewed as true subject matter experts that act as a valuable resource to our members. Using a mixture of construction knowledge, engineering experience and training, passion for the industry, and the ability to build and sustain relationships even when working through problems, MITA’s Director of Engineering can have a lasting impact on the heavy/highway construction industry in Michigan.

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities for the Director of Engineering Position
Prior Civil Engineering experience, including a Professional Engineering (P.E.) Certification
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in bridge design construction is preferred
Experience with MDOT specifications, design, and construction methods
Bachelor’s Degree required
Capability to travel within Michigan on a regular basis, with occasional out of state travel
Strong public speaking skills, specifically in large groups of people
Compensation and Benefits Structure for the Director of Engineering Position The Director of Engineering position is salaried, exempt and will report to the VP of Engineering. The starting salary is based on skills, abilities, experience, education, and training and is competitive within the local and national market.
