PK Companies is a family-owned property management and development company based out of Okemos, MI. Business has historically developed in Michigan, but has grown into six other states throughout the US. The Company started in 1981 and has experienced increased business potential, starting as a full-service property management company to running the development, construction, property rehabilitation and real estate portfolio within the organization.
The Controller Position The Controller leads a team of four in the accounting department and a team of four in accounts receivable. This position works closely with the management team on budgeting and property financials. The goal of this position is to strategically drive the team and the company forward all while maintaining financial goals and expectations.
The Controller role includes a mixture of hands-on, day-to-day duties and high-level strategic responsibilities. The accounting department is team-oriented and supports one another as they work to meet the fast-paced demands of both the corporate needs and the various properties. The Controller supports the company’s long-term growth and fiscal stability, including active engagement in the reporting, analysis, budgeting process, and auditing of property financials.
The Controller, while working a hybrid schedule that involves a mixture of in-office and work-from-home days, has the opportunity to work directly with the Company’s senior leadership team and have a true impact on the organization.
Experience, Skills & Abilities of the Controller Position
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
At least 10 years of prior experience in a senior-level accounting level role, or similar position, is preferred
Demonstrated cash accounting and tax knowledge
Experience in real estate development or similar organization is preferred, but not required
Compensation, Benefits, and Structure for the Controller Position The Controller is full-time, permanent position with a competitive base salary based on skills and experience. PK Companies also offers a comprehensive benefits package and the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
