Sr. Estimator

Fessler & Bowman is a premier concrete and excavation contractor with a project footprint across Southeast Michigan. With a 50+ year history of quality, safety, and profitability, the Company has relied on its strong leadership team and core principals. 

F&B is involved in all things concrete and earthwork-related, including building foundations, concrete slab on grade, concrete elevated slabs, shored concrete slabs, industrial press pit foundations, concrete pavement projects, site development, to earthwork and pipework. 

The Sr. Estimator Position
The Sr. Estimator is responsible for all aspects of the estimating function, including bid analysis, plan review, quantity take offs, subcontractor pricing collection, putting together bid information, and assessment of both winning and losing bids.  

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Developing the project plan, the project schedule and the proposal documents for all estimates
  • Reviews estimates for other estimating team members
  • Supports the determination of whether to pursue a project by participating in the “Go/No-Go” process on complex concrete projects
  • Creates complete project budgets once a project is being actively bid
  • Assembles documentation and prepares client presentations for proposal submissions
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience, Skills & Abilities for the Sr. Estimator Position
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least five (5) years of construction experience
  • Proficient in using Bid2Win estimating software or similar tool(s) 
  • Experience estimating medium-to-large commercial and industrial projects
  • Creative and results-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with all types of individuals.


Compensation, Benefits & Structure of the Sr. Estimator Position
This position includes a competitive salary structure, based on skills and experience, and a comprehensive benefit and retirement package. The actual location of where this position would sit is negotiable, based on the experience of the candidate. The Sr. Estimator reports to the Director of Estimating.

The recruitment process is designed to be a thorough, two-way evaluation to ensure that the best decision is made by both the Company and the candidate. Given this, multiple steps are required, including a phone interview, in-person interviews, candidate assessments, and a pre-employment background check and drug test.
