Hardman Construction is a geotechnical and bridge construction company based in Ludington, Michigan. With a 30+ year history of quality, safety, and profitability, the Company has relied on its strong leadership team and core principals. Additionally, the Company is owned and managed by four Michigan Tech grads!

The Position
The Company is looking for aspiring Construction Field Engineers to join their team for a 2019 Internship position. Applicants for this position should be working towards or recently completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. This position offers someone with interest in the construction industry an opportunity to gain hands-on experience. 
The hourly pay rate is dependent on candidate experience. Internships typically last for the duration of a summer break but may run during other times or concurrent with class periods when appropriate. Standard hours are roughly 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, depending on the specific project needs. This position could also eventually turn into a full-time, permanent position, depending upon the Intern’s success with the Company and in the position.
Interns are assigned to jobs in various locations throughout the state of Michigan (and potentially beyond), so a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel and work a lot is critical to the position. Primary work area is outside of the office on construction job sites.

Typical Internship Components:                          
  • Work directly on job sites to participate in field operations, observe means and methods, and develop a better understanding of the work
  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with quantity tracking, submittals, RFI’s, change orders, and other information
  • Participate in the tracking and setup of company parts, tools and equipment
  • Assist in coordination of material purchases, deliveries, tracking, and forecasting to ensure maximum utilization of physical resources
  • Perform site testing and inspections for projects
Career Path
The objective of the Company’s internship program is to develop interns into Field Engineers for permanent hire upon graduation. Beyond that, the long-term goal is to progress into a Project Management role.

The Recruiting Process
The recruitment process will include two interviews, candidate assessments, and a pre-employment background check and drug test.
